–Chengjiang fossils to be included in the World Heritage List
On the 36th World Heritage Committee meeting that being held in St. Petersburg, Russia, had announced that Cheng-jiang fossils has been included in the World Heritage List since July 1st, it is the first one of Yunnan World Heritage, and also the only one of whole China by far; it has filled the blank of China’s fossil natural heritage.
The site that Chengjiang fossils located is in Yuxi of Yunnan province, with an size of 512 hectares or so, the buffer area is about 220 hectares, with history of more than 530 million years, it was discovered in 1984, known as “the 20th century, the most striking one of the paleontological discovery. Chengjiang fossils includes a total of 16 categories, more than 200 species, of which are extremely rare in its kind, it also completely shows the early Cambrian marine communities and ecosystems.
