Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Tsetang (via Lhasa Airport)
Meet your Tibetan guide at Lhasa airport and drive to Tsetang (approx. 2.5 hours). On the way, visit Dranang Monastery and the Mindrolling Monastery, one of the six major monasteries of the Nyingma school. Check in and rest.

Day 2: Explore Tsetang
Visit Samye Monastery, the first Buddhist monastery in Tibet, built in the 8th century under King Trisong Detsen. In the afternoon, visit Yumbulakang Palace, considered the first palace in Tibet, and Trandruk Monastery, known for its pearl Thangka.

Day 3: Tsetang – Yamdrok Lake – Karola Glacier – Gyantse
Depart for Gyantse, stopping en route at Yamdrok Lake, one of Tibet’s four sacred lakes, and the Karola Glacier, cascading down from Mt. Nojin Kangtsang. Arrive in Gyantse by evening.

Day 4: Gyantse – Shigatse
Morning visit to Pelkhor Monastery and the Kumbum Stupa, a unique multi-storied structure. Drive to Shigatse, Tibet’s second-largest city. On the way, stop at a traditional Tibetan barley mill. Upon arrival, visit the famous Tashilhunpo Monastery, seat of the Panchen Lama.

Day 5: Shigatse – Lhasa via Brahmaputra River
Visit the local Tibetan market in Shigatse, then drive back to Lhasa along the scenic Yarlung Tsangpo (Brahmaputra) River. In the afternoon, visit Norbulingka, the former summer palace of the Dalai Lama.

Day 6: Lhasa City Tour – Potala Palace, Jokhang Temple & Barkhor Street
Start the day with a guided tour of the Potala Palace, the architectural marvel and spiritual center of Tibet. Then visit the sacred Jokhang Temple, followed by a walk around the bustling Barkhor Circuit, where pilgrims perform their kora. Optional visit to a local Sweet Tea House.

Day 7: Lhasa Monastic Circuit – Drepung & Sera Monasteries
Visit Drepung Monastery, once the largest monastery in Tibet and an important institution of the Gelugpa school. In the afternoon, head to Sera Monastery, famous for its lively monastic debates in the courtyard.

Do I need a visa to enter Tibet?
Yes. You will need a Chinese visa and a Tibet Travel Permit. We will assist with the Tibet permit application once you’ve booked the tour.

The tour takes place at elevations between 3,000–4,000 meters. We recommend staying hydrated, moving slowly, and consulting your doctor about altitude medication before your trip.
Is the tour suitable for solo travelers?
